Jessica Bartlett has been dancing in the Durham Region area since the young age of 3. She has been trained as a competitive dancer in many different styles such as ballet, pointe, jazz, lyrical, contemporary, acrobatics and tap. As her competitive years came to an end Jessica then decided to continue her education in dance at George Brown College where she graduated from the Dance Performance Preparation Program, as well as the Dance Performance Studies Program.
While studying at George Brown, Jessica received more extensive training in ballet, pointe, jazz and modern dance while working with choreographers such as Cynthia Macedo, Jane Wooding, Derek Sangster, Ray Hogg, Meredith Thompson, and Eddie Kastrau. Jessica also had the opportunity to work with the George Brown Dance Ensemble which included repertoire pieces from Ballet Jorgen Canada.
As a dancer Jessica also has completed exams in the Canadian Dance Teacher's Association(CDTA) syllabus as well as the British Association of Teachers of Dancing (BATD). She is also a certified teacher of the Associate Dance Arts for Professional Teachers (ADAPT). Jessica is excited and happy to be starting a new chapter with all of you!
Originally from Ajax, ON, Jackie has recently returned to Canada after five years in Orange County, CA. She has over 18 years of experience in a number of different dance styles, and has had the privilege of training and performing extensively in both the United States and Canada.
While in the U.S., Jackie earned her BFA in Dance Performance from Chapman University (Magna Cum Laude), and had the opportunity to perform works by choreographers including: Jiří Kylián, Merce Cunningham, Jennifer Backhaus, and Dale A. Merrill. Following graduation, Jackie performed professionally with Sean Greene's "Shield Wall" in Los Angeles, as well as in the 2015 resetting of Backhausdance's "Incandescent." She also performed in Vanessa Voskuil's piece "Gates," at the 80th American Dance Festival season's Footprints concert.
As a choreographer, Jackie hopes to share her power-driven movement and passion for storytelling with audiences and dancers alike. She has had her choreography showcased at studio, university, and professional levels. In 2014, Jackie's love for choreography led to the founding of her own dance collective, "Jackie Dew & Dancers," which won the grand prize at the 5th Annual APA Festival for her piece "dis:Connect."
Jackie has also taught students of all ages at private studios in both the U.S. and Canada, as well as within the Huntington Beach Union High School District in California. She firmly believes that all students receive quality training, regardless of whether they are dancing at a recreational, competitive, or pre-professional level.
Jackie is excited to share her love of dance and choreography with the students of Ajax Dance Company, and is thrilled to be part of this wonderful team!
